Thanks for reporting this bug. I can't reproduce it on a new trusty VM.
The package versions don't quite seem to make sense. Current package versions are:
cgroup-lite | 1.1 | precise | source
cgroup-lite | 1.1.5 | precise-updates | source
cgroup-lite | 1.9 | trusty | source
cgroup-lite | 1.10 | vivid/universe | source
cgroup-lite | 1.10 | wily/universe | source
But your log shows an attempt to replace 1.8, which no longer exists, with 1.9. It also shows upstart wasn't responding. Have you manually installed systemd?
What is your current version as reported in /etc/*-release? Is it still 14.04?
