Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Tried the Live CD Ubuntu Feisty, and it shows the first screen on boot, tried graphic safe install and install all its not working and informing me Xorg getting a trouble, a friend helped by installing the Ubuntu Feisty Alternative CD, and worked on Ubuntu Dapper Live CD (which was installed before, but I formated the PC) and copied the Xorg.conf to the installed Feisty, it didn't work. We tried to install the drived which is mentioned in the ATI website, it is working now but not full feature (e.g.Desktop Effects, Screen Resolution).

Try 7.10 beta, that should work. If not, you can reopen this bug.

I'm trying with Gutsy Tribe 5 + Toshiba Satellite M100 (ATI Mobility Radeon x1400) and I got the same result, that is, X fails to start.

Well, I saw this bug in Feisty (7.04) and I had to download/install xorg-driver-fglrx (in live CD mode) to install Feisty in my Laptop.

Hey Ubuntu Team!! Please, could you return to Dapper's X conf files? In Dapper this graphic card works perfect. :-D

I tried the complete 7.10 release, it is working but I could not use the all desktop effects!!!!

That's because compiz needs 3D support which your card lacks, and since it's using vesa that's not going to happen. In hardy you can use the proprietary fglrx which should work with compiz.
