I don't know if it is relevant, or related, but after adding new songs to the directory containing my music, rhythmbox just doesn't work anymore... grays out after a while... was thinking, maybe it can't update the metadata, because of this bug... the error above did show up regularly since ubuntu 12.10.

For me the bug appears, when i start rhythmbox from a file explorer (e.g. double click on mp3-file in Nautilus). When i start rhythmbox from the dash (without a file), there is no problem.

Thanks for information, walter-garcia. I can reproduce the bug and launch a new bug report. But i don't know, what to do. I don't want to open a new bug. But when i mark as duplicate, i don't know how to attach my bug report.
I have read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs
My only idea is, to reproduce, to send bug information via a new bug report, and then mark as a duplicate of #149540 again ...???

The bug happens, when:
i start rhythmbox with double click on a mp3-file in nautilus
rhythmbox starts, hard disk makes a lot of activity, after a while (30 sec) rhythmbox becomes grey an stands still (still a lot of activity on hard disk)
then i force to quit rhythmbox => bug report starts ....

when i do the same, but open before the double click in nautilus, rhythmbox without a file, it works fine. That means:
1) Open Rhythmbox
2) Double click on a mp3-file
=> rhythmbox starts playing

I am getting this bug ever since upgrading to trusty, never had it before. It seems to happen often not long after launching the program and also always while playing music.

That version has died long ago; no more supported

see #5 about the main reason

if that problem is still met with an active release, then report a fresh new bug. That one is useless.
