name column fills entire window in Nautilus list view

Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

The name column in the list view of Nautilus now takes up the entire window width-wise in Ubuntu Gutsy. I can't see the size or last modified date unless I scroll right and drag resize the columns back over to the left.
I have to do this for every folder I view.

I didn't have this problem in Feisty, just Gutsy. Actually I think Feisty may have made the name column a little to small, but I didn't mind that.

Is there a fix for this, or a way to permanently set the column widths for Nautilus.

This is not the same as these other bugs:

name column size not remembered:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/94014

name column too narrow in feisty:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/93381

Thank you for your bug. Considering as duplicate of bug #93381, there is no way to make everybody happy about the default setting since different users want different behavour and the program can't guess which one, the real solution would be for it to store the column settings for the directory

Changed in nautilus:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Invalid

The name column should only be too big if you actually have files with names that are very long.

Any reason why in 8 months no one can make this happen?

There is ten of thousand of bugs open on Ubuntu and limited manpower to work on those so the work has to be prioritized. The issue might be annoying but it's not a crasher nor something most users complain about. The code is open source, you are welcome to work on the bug though.
