This bug was fixed in the package gedit - 3.18.3-0ubuntu1

---------------
gedit (3.18.3-0ubuntu1) xenial; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version including some segfault fixes
    (lp: #1507490, #1523908)
  * debian/patches/git_theme_tweaks,
    debian/patches/extra_theme_tweaks.patch:
    - those changes are included in the new version
  * 0001-Use-the-OSX-menubar-layout-for-XFCE-Unity-etc.patch:
    - updated with the version commited to the upstream vcs
