Bug Description

Binary package hint: samba

Under ubuntu fesity fawn I had a samba share that I was accessing from windows, after upgrading to gutsy gibbon I was no longer able to access it, my smb.conf wasn't changed, windows is able to see the share, it just can't authenticate, I cleared my windows connection cache. All software is as up to date as apt-get provides.

I have this one too. Had security = share before the upgrade, so I could share with Windows boxes. Now it's not able to connect because of authentication, same as you.

Did the upgrade process change your smb.conf file ?

Could you post your smb.conf file ?

It doesn't appear to have changed anything, here is my entire smb.conf

Did you create a user account in samba before upgrading ?

Could you make sure that the user account is still there after the
upgrade ?

You can list the accounts with the following command:
  sudo pdbedit -L

I never had a user account for samba, I just set security = share. But I
think you were asking the bug reporter, so I'll shut up.

Can you try connecting to the share from the linux server with smbclient
command line ?

I could, can anyone tell me what exactly the command would look like(I've never used smbclient).

Ok, windows just started working again, I haven't done anything but I can now connect, I did restart Ubuntu(its in a VM), but that was the 3rd of 4th time I'd done that and I restarted samba after each change. Unless someone else is having problems this can probably be closed.

I'm marking this bug as invalid.

@Frederik, if you still have a problem after the upgrade, could you file a new bug and attach you smb.conf file ?

Thank you.
