no progress screen for boot or poweroff in gutsy rc

Bug Description
I just finished a fresh install of Gutsy RC1. Things went smoothly until I rebooted my system after installing. No progress is displayed. In fact, I see nothing at all until GDM comes up. Also, it seems like the system takes an awfully long time to load (this could be just because I'm use to seeing progress). The same thing happens when I restart or power-off my machine.

This has been reported several times at several places. I guess you might call that: the bug is confirmed.
