Bug Description
I disregarded the warnings and ran the upgrade tool from Kubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 RC while other applications were running. The system slowed to a crawl, and a top which I managed to open showed that dist-upgrade.py was weighing in at over 1GB of virtual memory. Things speeded up again, presumably because the kernel killed the upgrade tool and the other largest memory hog (a VirtualBox VM with 256MB allocated, which comes from kernel memory). I reran the upgrade tool, and this time the upgrade was successful, but top still showed that dist-upgrade.py was using 720Mb of virtual memory, which seems a wee bit too much.
This report is informational and I won't be offended if you close it again immediately, as it will be hard for me to retry to get more information about the problem.
