Bug Description

Running Gutsy Gibbon after running all updates.

I installed bcm34xx using the restricted driver manager. This driver worked until I restarted. I am now getting an error BCM43xx: MAC suspend failed.

After a while I get an error saying bcm43xx: FATAL ERROR: BCM43xx_IRQ_XMIT_ERROR

This did work when I first installed and I even made a connection to a wpa network. It wasn't until I restarted that I had problems

I have the same problem. I tried both amd64 and i386 versions of gutsy and used bcm43xx-fwcutter (through restricted-manager) to get the firmware. My computer is HP notebook (dv6510ew). In fwcutter I used the firmware from internet link that was provided. I also tried several other firmwares (like this: http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o from http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43 and bcm43xx_compwiz18.1-all.deb firmware (got it somewhere on forum)) with the same result. I also tried extracting firmware from windows vista driver (bcmwl6.sys) but fwcutter told me that this file doesn't contain any firmware.

I don't know what the problem may be, because the card is listed as compatibile with the bcm43xx driver. So maybe firmware is incorrect, if so restricted-manager should check it and point proper firmware to me.

With these errors card is listed in iwconfig but can't find any network (and network is present because on windows it gets detected with about 80% strenght).

This is lspci outpu about my card:

03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g [14e4:4312] (rev 02)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device [103c:1371]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
 Memory at b0200000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
 Capabilities: <access denied>

Dmesg output about wifi card is exactly the same as in reporter's attachment.

I confirm this is the same version I get 14e4:4312

I worked with ndiswrapper in feisty but it won't work on fwcutter or
ndiswrapper in gutsy.

I use opensuse 10.3 with kernel 2.6.22-12 wich is the newest available as rpm-package.

My broadcom bcm4312 (rev 02) shows the same errors you listed. but yesterday I tried the newest fwcutter http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/suse/src/bcm43xx-fwcutter-006-44.src.rpm (I have to rebuild)
and now I have only a single message containing BCM43xx_IRQ_XMIT_ERROR. The MAC suspend failure is 5 time listed.
I couldn't test it 'till yet, but I'm hopefull that it works.
The firmware I used was cutted out form bcmwl564.sys cause I have 64-bit architecture... the bcmwl664.sys is still unsupported - I think it's a matter of time.
I know from berlios-site http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/ that the newer kernel 2.6.24 will have better suopport for the bcm43xx driver modules. So I hope these kernels will be soon available for opensuse 10.3 as rpm-package.

I never would use ndiswrapper if there is any way to do it without.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
