I'm trying to get into MOTUs and this is my first whack at this. I went and got the source for slocate, fixed it, dch'd, then built the source package with dpkg-buildpackage -S -sd -rfakeroot I read about debdiff and then I generated this patch using the following command

$ debdiff slocate_3.1-1.1ubuntu3.dsc slocate_3.1-1.1ubuntu4.dsc > slocate-3.1.patch

Hi,

Thanks for your contribution. The patch looks good to me,
but it needs a couple of tweaks first. Firstly you should use
"intrepid" rather than "hardy" as the target distribution in
debian/changelog (on the first line).

Also, to close a bug in launchpad from the changelog we
use the "LP: #XXXXX" syntax, rather than "Closes: #XXXXX",
which is for Debian.

Also, would you be able to forward this patch to Debian
and/or upstream?

Once you have corrected the issues mentioned above you will
need someone to upload the patch for you. To find someone
could you please subscribe the "ubuntu-main-sponsors" team
using the link in the box in the top left of the page, "Subscribe
someone else". Someone will then review your patch again
and upload it if it is ready.

Thanks,

James

Thanks for the clear directions, James!

I'm having a nasty time getting a build environment for up to make a patch for the deb folks, I will post a message in their tracker about this patch though.

Hi,

Thanks for updating the patch. It looks good to me now, hopefully
someone with the power can upload it now.

As for sending the patch to Debian, it's a straightforward one, so
you don't need to bother about trying to build it. If you just
forward the meat of your patch to the bug report it should be
fine (i.e. leave off the changelog difference).

Thanks,

James

I've also been following your comments, and have learn some stuff about how to go about getting something fixed in Ubuntu.
