Bug Description
Binary package hint: debian-installer
With the Kubuntu PowerPC port install disks on an iBook G3 600MHz with 384Mb.
1) The Live CD fails to boot at all -- it hangs up at "Loading kernel"
2) With the alternate CD a system is installed, but when the time comes to reboot the system shows the Kubuntu boot splash screen, but the progress bar halts at about 1 or 2 pixels wide (i.e. first step). Eventually (sorry I don't have an estimate of how long) it drops into an emergency ash shell with an "(initramfs) #" prompt.
At a guess I'd say that the initrd generation is failing to generate a usable initrd.
The Fiesty Live disk works fine and installs a usable system, so it's unlikely to be a problem with the machine.
I had pretty much the same thing on a circa 2001 G3 PPC iBook; could not load the Live CD, got the Alternate to load up, but when I cranked it up after installation, the s/w hung up shortly after and it returned a "prom-init" error. (I can replicate this and get the hex values I believe, if that is helpful). Luckily, hitting "tab" at the command line prompt served up a couple of options, including "hda3-Linux" which proved to be my last install, which I'm using now. Thanks for working out these bugs, and for the PPC install.
