I had the same problem, under Feisty I had compiled Pidgin and after the upgrade to Gusty I had only the MySpace protocol.
Because pidgin looks plugins in the directory: /usr/lib/pidgin/ but there are installed in: /usr/lib/purple.
I fixed the problem by sudo cp /usr/lib/purple/* /usr/lib/pidgin/
I have a /usr/lib/purple-2/ containing a lots of plugins too.

Do you had pidgin installed before on Feisty ?I think that the problem comes from the replacement of the old Pidgin by the Pidgin from the repository.

I have pidgin installed on Feitsy with a getdeb package.
I haven't /usr/lib/purple/ but I have /usr/lib/purple-2/ with a lot af file (probably plugins)

In my /usr/lib/pidgin/ I have already some plugin
herecap.so gestures.so history.so musicmessaging.so pidginrc.so timestamp_format.so
convcolors.so gevolution.so iconaway.so nautilus.so spellchk.so timestamp.so
extplacement.so gtkbuddynote.so markerline.so notify.so ticker.so xmppconsole.so

I have copied all file from /usr/lib/purple-2/ but bug is already present

I try to uninstall another time for see what file is always installed

I have remove pidgin from synaptic (full remove), then I have remove full file in /usr/lib/pidgin/ and reinstall package who match with pidgin name & decription already installed. (only nautilus-sendto)
directory /usr/lib/pidgin/ have 1 file (nautilus.so)

I have install pidgin with sudo apt-get install pidgin
But bug is always there

When I run pidgin with -d argument I have some line with this one :

(22:33:17) plugins: probing /usr/lib/pidgin/gtkbuddynote.so
(22:33:17) plugins: /usr/lib/pidgin/gtkbuddynote.so is not loadable: ABI version mismatch 2.2.x (need 2.1.x)

It seem that it's a version mismatch but package come from official repository

An idea ?

I have re-installed Ubuntu with the last version (8.04) so this bug is now invalid.

Changed in pidgin:
status: New → Invalid
