Bug Description

Hi all,
I have upgraded my kubuntu from 7.4 to 7.10 (for amd-64) and I have a little problem with knetworkmanager:

If I configure my network interface manually, when I click (left button of mouse) on knetworkmanager icon (systray) only first tab (device) is active, but it report that : "No active device".
All other tab are disabled.
However my network card work fine, I can connect to my lan.

If I configure my network interface with dhcp, all works fine.

This problem (bug?) still persist on new installation of kubuntu 7.10

Excuse me for my bad english :)

Regards

Paolo

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in knetworkmanager.

Hi Mario,
following your indications, I have collected more information:

$ xprop | grep WM_CLASS
WM_CLASS(STRING) = "knetworkmanager", "Knetworkmanager"

$ ps ax | grep knetworkmanager
 6427 ? S 0:02 knetworkmanager [kdeinit]

$ type knetworkmanager
knetworkmanager is /usr/bin/knetworkmanager

$ dpkg -S /usr/bin/knetworkmanager
network-manager-kde: /usr/bin/knetworkmanager

I have attached an image (png format) of my knetworkmanager window.

Regards
Paolo

Hi,
I believe that this is not a bug of kubuntu, but of kde or knetworkmanager program...

I have installed another distro (fedora 7) with kde and I have the same problem....

Paolo

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Kubuntu better. The KDE3 version of KNetworkManager has been discontinued by its original authors. This unfortunately means that there will be no more bugfix releases, and updates in general will be limited to those fixing security flaws.

While we cannot fix your bug, the good news is that the applet has been totally rewritten for KDE4 in the upcoming Kubuntu 9.10 release. There is a good chance that this bug is no longer an issue with the new applet. If you find any similar or new issues with the applet included in Kubuntu 9.10, we would politely ask you to file them as new bugs against the "plasma-widget-networkmanagement" package.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
