Bug Description

Version 0.6.5.7 was released 21 ago, this is the changelog:
https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/releases/tag/zfs-0.6.5.7

Since Ubuntu is now shipping ZFS we can't rely on the ppa anymore to provide up to date packages. This point release also fixes a few minor bugs and supports Linux 4.6.

I noticed that using the wily PPA will build correct kernel modules so this is my workaround for now (doesn't require me to backport).

The v4.8 kernel that will ultimately be released in Yakkety is up to spl/zfs 0.6.5.8. Have a look in https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/unstable. User space is also up to 0.6.5.8

Are there going to be further upgrade to xenial? I'm thinking of just rolling a PPA since I tend to run more current vanilla kernels.

What is the recommended or official way to have critical fixed in the LTS kernel?

zfs 0.6.5.7 includes critical fixes, like hole_birth fix (workaround) which is extremely IMPORTANT.

Richard Laager (rlaager) wrote :

@tomposmiko, the official way is to 1) file a bug report, 2) get that fixed in the current development branch, and then 3) follow the SRU (stable release update) process to get it backported into the LTS release.

The hole birth thing is a mess, and I've got bug #1600060 open for that in Ubuntu. Hopefully we can get that work-around included soon.
