Bug Description

When using an Audio CD in Xubuntu Gutsy, the file manager will not "mount" the drive correctly, data CD's however, are mounted as normal. The error shows:

"Failed to mount "Audio CD". Unknown error. Cannot mount volume. Invalid mount option when attempting to mount the volume."

But when I play the CD in Mplayer, it reads and plays fine.

They aren't supposed to. They do have a filesystem of sorts, but it really wouldn't be usefull to mount it. You can access the audio data in several formats through audiocd:// (I think...) in konqueror, or simply play it using KSCD or the like.

maybe detection and a clear error message would be a suitable fix so that other users are not confused in the future?

Thanks, I had a feeling it was something like that.

I agree it should be more clear though. From Windows I was used to it displaying .cda files for each track, which I could click to play the track. Something similar would be nice, although even a message saying "This is an Audio CD" would be more helpful.

I am going to confirm this. In Xubuntu Hardy 8.04, using a default installation with nothing added, totem movie player will pop up with an error message: "An error occurred. Location not found." Any attempt to view the audio cd in Thunar gives a blank screen with no messages. This leaves a user very confused. Did my cd get erased? Did it get scratched? Why is it empty?

A message should at least advise that the cd is an Audio CD without data.

Fred Warren (fred-warren) wrote :

Thunar has the association for audio cds cdda:/ instead of the proper cdda:// and for dvds as dvd:/ instead of dvd://

To correct this for the current user who is logged in they can do the following
1. Run Thunar
2. From the Edit menu select Preferences
3. Click on the advanced tab, then click on the blue linked word Configure
4. Click on the Multimedia Tab and change "totem cdda:/" to "totem cdda://"
4. Do the same for DVD playback, change "totem dvd:/" to "totem dvd://"

The problem still exists in Hardy as well. Do I need to file a new bug report?

I'm using Xubuntu Hardy 8.04 and I found the same bug that was verified from Charlie Kravetz.
I've followed Fred Warrens' directions and so I've solved this problem.
