This bug has been flagged because it is old and possibly inactive. It may or may
not be fixed in the latest release (Breezy Badger 5.10). It is being marked as
"NEEDSINFO". In two weeks time, if the bug is not updated back to "NEW" and
validated against Breezy, it will be closed.

This is needed in order to help manage the current bug list for the kernel. We
would like to fix all bugs, but need users to test and help with debugging.

If this change was in error for this bug, please respond and make the
appropriate change (or email <email address hidden> if you cannot make the
change).

As of Breezy kernel 2.6.12-9-686, it still half works. CPU frequency is Ok,
battery status says always on AC (even when on battery), backlight switch
doesn't work.
With the latest kernel of Hoary (2.6.10-5-686) everything was working!
I'll attach output from dmesg, dmidecode and lspci.
Thanks!

If possible, please upgrade to Dapper's 2.6.15-7 kernel. If you do not want to
upgrade to Dapper, then you can also wait for the Dapper Flight 2 CD's, which
are due out within the next few days.

Let me know if this bug still exists with this kernel.

Also you might want to check to see if there is a BIOS upgrade as well.

I think this is like a duplicate bug of
http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=18004 or maybe that one is a
duplicate of this! :)
By the way, I've upgraded to Dapper and the problem is still present.
The bios version I'm using is the latest one from ASUS page.
Oh, bug 24153 has the latest dmesg, dmidecode, lspci and acpidump from Dapper!
Thanks!

Update to Beta, ACPI still doesn't work:
- if I boot with ACPI=OFF I can use the backlight and brightness switches;
- else they don't work.
