I tried to install the emacs again, here is the output. The file is attached
too.

Same problem here, trying to attach temp file

Checked on a different ubuntu machine, /etc/emacs/site-start.d/00debian-vars.el didn't exist. ran "aptitude install emacs22" on second machine and it succeeded, and file was generated. Copied 00debian-vars.el to original machine, and re-running "aptitude install emacs22" succeeded.

I tried two ubuntu machines with different settings but one laptop one
desktop, both of them failed. Instead of Emacs22, I installed CVS emacs 23
for better fonts.

I finally turned to emacs 23 CVS version, which is now both available in
windows and linux, with a much better font support and Unicode support.
