(sorry for the separate comments)

It appears this is fixed in version 0.6.2b1 of Alexandria. This however will not be updated for Gutsy as it is not a security issue.

I am marking this as Fix Committed.

installing alexandria_0.6.2b2_all.deb did not work, same issues.

Maximilian,

Since Alexandria is not written by Ubuntu, please use the Alexandria issue tracker: http://rubyforge.org/tracker/?func=detail&group_id=205&aid=4888&atid=863

That way the developers of Alexandria can benefit from your information.

alexandria is working fine in fedora 7 and 8. maybe it is a ubuntu-specific problem.

Maximillian, please post all follow up comments on the Alexandria bug tracker: http://rubyforge.org/tracker/?func=detail&group_id=205&aid=4888&atid=863

Did you "apt-get remove alexandria" first before installing the 0.6.2b2?

If not, try that (and post the results to the Alexandria bug tracker) :)

Message:
Thanks for crossing this bug over to our Tracker. This seems to be another duplicate of #8647. The underlying problem is actually with Ruby/Amazon (a dependency of alexandria, used for the Amazon lookup). The version (libamazon-ruby 0.9.0) commonly distributed in Debian & Ubuntu has a bug with the lookup of amazon sites other than amazon.com. This has commonly shown up with amazon.de (and I've only just started seeing the pattern of bug reports).

You should upgrade to libamazon-ruby 0.9.2 - I have prepared a deb file for that version and it is available from the Alexandria website, here:

http://alexandria.rubyforge.org/dependencies/ruby-amazon/

URL for referenced bug in their tracker (8647): http://rubyforge.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=8647&group_id=205&atid=863

It looks like we need to update libamazon-ruby to 0.9.2 in Hardy. Current in Hardy is 0.9.0

Maximilian: This won't be fixed for Gutsy since it is not a security issue, sorry.

The problem is a bug in the libamazon-ruby package - update it to libamazon-ruby 0.9.2 works definitively..
+1 updateing it for Hardy.

I can confirm this. Updating to libamazon-ruby_0.9.2_all.deb works! Thanks a lot.

an interdiff across a new upstream version is not very useful for uploading, but I'll just grab the new orig.tar.gz directly from upstream.

Maximilian, which alexandria version did you try in Hardy? The one in the repository is (unfortunately) still 0.6.1, whereas we have just released version 0.6.3. You can find packages (also for Hardy) in our PPA at https://launchpad.net/~alexandria-team/+archive.
We are trying to get 0.6.3 into Hardy, but we missed the feature frees deadline. We're doing the best we can (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alexandria/+bug/191905).

thank you. it was 0.6.1 from the repository. manually installed 0.6.2 and 0.6.3 work both fine in hardy and gutsy.
