Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

I noticed this strange behave when navigating in Nautilus.

My settings:
list mode + single click

Description:
when I expand several folders and sub-folders by clicking on the arrows or using the keyboard (shift+left, shift+right) and leave one file highlighted with the cursor, it can be opened when I click in specific spots. The spot is between the navigation arrow and the folder icon, from the bottom to half height.

The highlighted file is opened whenever I click on that particular spot to either expand or collapse folders. The folders and the file are located in the same main directory. I noticed that while working with my files and repeated it creating some files and folders. I attached a screenshot aiming those areas.

Regards

Thanks for your report, Which version of nautilus are you running? Can you reproduce the same with latest version available on Hardy? thanks.

The nautilus version as listed in Synaptic is 1:2.20.0-0ubuntu7. I'm
running Ubuntu 7.10 so I cannot test the bug on the last version.
Please, let me know if you need additional information.

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Hi,

I tested the Ubuntu 8.04 alpha 6 live CD and found the same odd behavior.

In addition to that, I change themes and it also happens on Clearlooks
what indicates that this is theme-independent. If you want you can
easily replicate it:

1. set "single-click" in nautilus preferences
2. set "always open in browser windows" in nautilus preferences
3. select "list view" mode in nautilus
4. create a few folders and text files as in the screenshot I included
5. let one of the text files highlighted. It has to be in the same level
of the directory arrows that will be clicked.
6. click at the right-down side of the arrows of directories that are in
the same hierarchical level than the highlighted file

As the click will expand/contract the folder, it will also trigger a
single-click on the highlighted file. Please, let me know you were able
to reproduce the problem and/or need some other information.

could you send the bug on bugzilla.gnome.org? the team is overworked already and that's a low priority issue, seems you seem to be able to trigger the bug and care about it sending it upstream would be useful
