Bug Description

I received this error during a Dapper => Hardy upgrade:

Unpacking libx11-data (from .../libx11-data_2%3a1.1.3-1_all.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libx11-data_2%3a1.1.3-1_all.deb (--unpack):
 trying to overwrite `/usr/share/X11/locale/armscii-8/XI18N_OBJS', which is also in package libx11-6
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/libx11-data_2%3a1.1.3-1_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Using Conflicts: libx11-6 (<< 2:1.0.0-2) should fix this issue.

Thanks Luca for the bugreport and the patch.

A Replaces instead of a Conflicts is the better choice here but otherwise it looks fine.

Cheers,

Patch is available for upload here, along with a deb for testing:

However, sounds like a fix is already coming down the pipe in debian, so maybe we can sync instead of carry our own change here.

This bug was fixed in the package libx11 - 2:1.1.3-1ubuntu1

---------------
libx11 (2:1.1.3-1ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  [Luca Falavigna <email address hidden>]
  * debian/control:
    - add Conflicts to libx11-6 (<< 2:1.0.0-2) in libx11-data to perform
      a clean upgrade from Dapper (closes LP: #176555)
    - update Maintainer field as per spec

  [Bryce Harrington]
  * debian/control:
    - The Conflicts should really be a Replaces (as per mvo)
