Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdeprint

This concerns kubuntu gutsy.

The "add new printer" wizard doesn't detect local printer (usb) after using cups server configuration tool.

Here are the steps to reproduce:

1. plug in a usb printer
2. in the system settings -- Printers, select Add -- add a printer
(sorry my system is in French and I have not checked the exact english translation)
3. the wizard appears, click "Next", and the first radio box you can check is "local printer (parallel, serial, usb)".
4. cancel.

5. Now, in the main kdeprint window, select "server" (the third menu) and "configure server".
6. just apply.

7. retry steps 1--3: the "local printer" now cannot be selected !
(and in fact if you had a printer already configured, it does not work anymore)

The intial behaviour can be recovered by
cd /etc/cups
sudo cp cupsd.conf.default cupsd.conf
sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart

(honestly I spent a whole day to figure this fix out ! :( )

Is this a problem with the system-config-printer-kde application in Kubuntu Intrepid? (You should be able to test from a Live CD, I think)
