Bug Description

Before Ubuntu switched from Unity to GNOME Shell the login user experience was much more appealing.

For every user, when you looped through them on the login screen, the background image was shown with a nice fade-in visual effect. See this video for a demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seQ6C-yEpCw

It would be nice if Ubuntu would again feel similar on the login screen.

Technically, at least setting a single (system-wide) wallpaper on the login screen is not difficult (via #lockDialogGroup in /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css). Interested parties may visit this blog for details: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2017/10/change-login-screen-background-ubuntu-17-10/ (TL;DR edit /etc/alternatives/gdm3.css)

The login screen is mostly driven by 'gnome-shell' code still, so that might be where a fix will go.
