By default in Ubuntu, the splash image try shows /usr/share/pixmaps/splash/ubuntu-splash.png when launching Gnome, but this file don't exist in the default installation of Ubuntu, so Gnome shows /usr/share/pixmaps/splash/gnome-splash.png when starting Gnome.

to solve tis problem I installed the package feisty-session-splashes , and now i have the splash of Ubuntu Feisty,

To confirm this bug, please, if you have a clean installation of Ubuntu 7.10, go to /usr/share/pixmaps/splash/ and see if you have the file ubuntu-splash.png
