Bug Description

After reading the other bug reports related to printing in OpenOffice with gutsy, i think I have something different here.
I can print from all tested applications without greater problems, Thunderbird, the gimp, Abi Word. But in Open Office, I can't print anything. I tried some gtk themes before this problem occured, but i turned back to the human theme - still OpenOffice won't print at all.
It might be a variation of the know bug, still it differ quite.

The funny thing is - I got it working right now. I tryd something I did at least ten times the last 2 days: setting the theme back to "human", and then went to the open office printer settings and fumbled at the "warnings" checkboxes.
This orked - but as this is something I tried very often, this is not more than a workaround no real solution...

Is it possible that it has to do with Bug #179696, which notices that Open Office doesn't use the default printer, just the 1st one on the list. Could it be as simple as you pressing print inside Open Office and selecting your default printer from that window? Maybe, Maybe not?

Nope, OpenOffice used the default printer - at least it showed the correct printer name, but then didn't print. And now it does print without changing the printer manually in OOo. I persume it has something to do with the gtk themes, but after reseting to human theme, it took several hours, reboots and a not reproducable times of playing in the OOo print settings (via the Open Office Options) to get it running again.

Noticed the same bug with a computer I was giving support for. In the end, I recommended exporting all files to PDF and printing from there, which worked fine. After a while, the issue went away (without upgrading packages in between). Anyway, the printer was a network printer connected to a print server, so I could verify that there was no mixup or broken connection, the correct printer did in fact receive a signal every time I tried to print something. However, the data sent was only a few kb, far less than would be expected from a postscript file. Since I didn't run wireshark back then and can't reproduce the bug now, this will be of little help. I'm writing this mainly in response to Josh's suggestion and because of the workaround mentioned above.

Same problem with hardy heron and Ooffice 2.4.1. One user is able to print, but another isn't. All my tests are done by File -> Print - Dialog

I removed the .openoffice.org2/ directory to reset the user preferences. But this doesn't help. Printing is still not possible. When I export this document to PDF and try to print the PDF, it works. All other applications work, including "print test page".

You seem to have a different problem than this bug report is about as that bug was fixed. Please try upgrading to a more recent release eg Ubuntu 8.10 and see if that helps the issue or try out the ppa at https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive
