Bug Description
Binary package hint: openoffice.org
When using OpenOffice.org to open an attachment from an email, and to edit it, OpenOffice.org pops up two message box:
- The first one to notify that you don't have enough permissions to edit the document, and offers an "OK" button.
- The second one notifies that you still don't have enough permissions but you might want to edit a copy, with a standard "yes/no/cancel" set of buttons.
The first message box is quite redundant - if it provides any extra information that the second message box does not, then that information can be integrated into the second message box. The first message box is also problematic as its a notification for the user on something which is not fatal, the user has no control over, and does not provide any options on how to proceed. I suspect that most users do not even read that message, instead they identify the message box immediately as useless (due to the single button) and click through it.
This rather common use case can be slightly streamlined by doing away with the first message box.
This happens for all OpenOffice.org applications. I suspect the same problem also happens when trying to edit a document by another user on the same computer, but I can't figure out other scenarios that will trigger this behavior.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. With which specific version of the openoffice.org package did you notice this issue? You can check using the command 'dpkg -l openoffice.org | cat'. Additionally, what command are you using to open the e-mail? I tried opening a read only document via 'oowriter test.odt' and did not receive any warnings. Thanks in advance.
