Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Please see OOo Bugs:

The official OOo versions offer the functionality, but the Ubuntu OOo does not. My applications should work on ubuntu, too...

Thank you for the bug report. Can you please provide a list of installed openoffice.org packages by running the following command in a Terminal window?

dpkg -l | grep openoffice.org

Also which java runtime are you using with OOo?

Jason Toffaletti (jason) wrote : Re: openoffice.org API offers not the functionality of official OOo

I talked to the Ubuntu openoffice maintainer and he suggested that most bugs in the Uno API are due to openoffice being compiled with gcj current, which doesn't provide the same level of java support as sun's java compiler. This should change once openjava (icedtea) is used to compile openoffice. This will likely happen in hardy or hardy+1. Thanks again for the bug report.

Does this problem still affect you on Ubuntu hardy openoffice.org 1:2.4.0~rc2-1ubuntu3?

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

Chris,

I tried to test it: the first bug, I reported (http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=85073) is now solved. It works correctly.

But I cannot test the second due to my comments to bug 193139 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/193139/). Summary: OOo does not find a JRE and my Extension needs a JRE. Please fix bug 193139 soon! This is very severe!

Thanks a lot! Greetings, Tobias

Hi Chris,

after installing openoffice.org-gcj I have java functionality on OOo in Hardy. I testet the second issue (http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=83074). It still does not work. Installing the OOo extension works fine, but the contained commandURL does not work.

Greetings, Tobias

Thank you for the status update, it is most likely java related but we can't change the java compiler until openjdk final version is released and is migrated to main.

Thanks for the information.

See http://api.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=19229 for one more missing feature.

Hoping there will be an openjdk soon in main.

Greetings and thanks, Tobias

Can you still reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid)? If you can still reproduce it on Ubuntu 8.10 does this happen on other versions of Linux like OpenSUSE? I am not sure if it something I may be doing wrong in Ubuntu or something that is broken in ooo-build which most versions of Linux use (besides RedHat).

Hi Chris,

sorry for the late status update. I forgot to answer your comment from October. Here the status for the current Intrepid packages. The following things still do not work:
- the name of a new toolbar is not correctly set (http://api.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=19229)
- a Java Extension CommandURL does not work if installed via API (http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=83074)

Once you have installed the extension what is it supposed to do when you click on the item in the menu? I sent this bug to ooo-build where the problem is probably caused but they didn't know what it was even supposed to verify it was not working.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

Hi Chris,

the extension should just dispatch a uno command URL. Here is the relevant part of code that. But this code is never run - I cannot even remote debug it:
-----%<-----
public void dispatch(URL aURL, PropertyValue[] lArgs) {
 if (aURL.Path.startsWith("Saveto")) {
  // Setting the SaveTo property
  PropertyValue[] saveProperties = new PropertyValue[1];
  saveProperties[0] = new PropertyValue();
  saveProperties[0].Name = "SaveTo";
  saveProperties[0].Value = new Boolean(true);

  // Dispatching the CommandURL
  OOUtils.dispatchCommandURL(xComponentContext, xFrame,
    ".uno:SaveAs", saveProperties);
 }
        else ....
}
-----%<-----
Hope this will help you. Tell you if you need a sample extension. I'll send it via PM.

From the discussion in the upstream bug report this appears to be fixed in OOo 3.1 in Karmic and the ppa.
