Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

This has occurred twice. I am using Ubuntu 7.10 on an Acer Travelmate 4650 laptop.

After restarting my computer, the information that I have entered into the gnome-about-me capplet disappears. I have a fair-share of experience in CLI environments; therefore, I can provide you with any diagnostic information that may be necessary in helping to solve this problem (don't hesitate to ask!).

Thank you very much,
Anthony Cuozzo.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Ah, I'm sorry for not being specific enough.

1. Specific Steps: (1) I open the gnome-about-me application. (2) I fill in the better majority of the fields (excluding: Contacts -> Instant Messaging -> Jabber, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, Groupwise (I filled in AIM)). (3) I click the "Close" button. (4) I close all open applications and restart the computer. (5) I open the gnome-about-me application.

2. Behavior Expected: After restarting, I would expect the information that I have entered into the gnome-about-me application to still be there.

3. Behavior Encountered: After restarting, the gnome-about-me application does not contain the information that I have entered into it. The fields are blank and not filled-in. It looks the way it did prior to entering my information into it.

Thanks, that works fine here, does that works with another new user created on your system?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Checked the reported bug in Hardy RC. The bug seems to have been fixed in the latest release of gnome-control-center, as the details entered in the About Me window seems to be intact after a reboot. Closing this bug as fix released, feel free to open this bug if it is reproducible in Hardy.
