Bug Description

In Gutsy with my Toshiba A210 15 Y notebook when I use gnome my system becomes unresponsive from time to time. When I click the start button in the task bar it resonses again. When I change the power policy from ondemand to performance it works but my cpu becomes hot.
I tried it with kde 4 and it works with ondemand without becoming unresponsive

any ideas?
thanks

solution seems to be found: installing version 1.0 of powernowd from packages.debian.org

8.04 should be updated to this version, too to avoid problems

update: solution NOT found!
system still blocks. the gnome clock stops too, so the clock is much slower as a normal clock after some time
with hardy there ist no change

with kde 4.02 same problem

has anyone ideas what it could be? stopping the powernowd helps but then there is no power control of the processor any more

Is this symptom still reproducible in 9.04?

Testing with 8.10 would probably be acceptable too for now.
And if you could, testing with KDE 4.2's powerdevil power manager (not guidance-power-manager), that would be great too.
