Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Since updating gnome-terminal to the 2.21.x series in Hardy, I cannot see any item in the menubar anymore. However, if I try to randomly click on the left of the menubar, drop down menus appear, so at least they're there.
I'm using the italian locale. I tried to do "export LC_ALL=C && gnome-terminal", but it doesn't seem to work. Not sure if it's a locale problem or a bug in gnome-terminal itself.

See screenshot.

I can confirm this problem. I'm using the Spanish (Spain) locale. Hardy, just updated.

Maybe some i18n files are missing?

thanks for your report, If there's some missing strings it should fallback to the C one. I'm also using spanish locale and it works fine here. Which version of gnome-terminal are you both running?

Changed in gnome-terminal:

I can confirm it, too.
I found out that it is related to "Edit" -> "Keyboard Shortcuts" -> "[] Disable all menu acccess keys", i.e.
if i select it and start a new gnome-terminal, the new terminal will have empty menus.
if i then uncheck it, the menu text will appear immediately.
It seems to be unrelated to locale settings. (I tested it with en_US.UTF-8 and de_DE.UTF-8)

Is this reproducible with a new user created on your system? I cannot reproduce it.

yes it is. I just tested it with another user account, starting with a completely empty home directory.
