Bug Description

Binary package hint: yelp

Hardy Alpha 4 up to date Real Player gets sound but video is just vertical colored bars.

This is a dual boot system so Hardy Alpha as of a few days ago Real Player ran fine.

Example is BBC News, one minute summary select stand alone player, runs fine until last few days update.

I just selected Help, Report a Bug, so apport fired up and may have some info.

This is readily reproducible so let me know if I can send any info.

Hardware is Compaq Preario 3.3 gHz Celeron.

Flash Player on You Tube running O.K. Did get one crash earlier which apport sent info in.

Looks rather a video driver issue

Real Player works fine on Hardy Alpha up through 1 February 2008, so Hardy Alpha 3 is fine.

Hardy Alpha 4 broke it.

If it is a video driver issue, it is an issue only when running Hardy Alpha 4, not an issue when running Hardy Alpha 3. The last thing to change was Hardy. Maybe ubuntu developers think the drivers should change to accommodate ubuntu changes, I don't know.

Anyway my backup is to use my Hardy Alpha 3 install.

Let me know if I can try anything. Jerry

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04? Which graphics chipset and X Window System graphics driver are you using?

O.K. now on 8.10. I'm running 9.04 but haven't tried real player - waiting for CD to get down below 700 mb.
