Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I've installed a Wacom Graphire Bluetooth tablet following this HowTo: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=674738

I randomly see times now where the cursor (mouse) and pen (stylus) seem to lag behind the input. I'll move the mouse around, and the cursor follows ... eventually. Not having the mouse/stylus able to control the cursor properly renders this device fairly unusable.

Sometimes when it is happening, I remove the device from the tablet for 3 seconds or so, and then try again and it seems to ahve caught up. Sometimes it doesn't though, and I'm forced to resort back to the mouse I have plugged in as well (USB wireless).

I've tried disabling Compiz (set 3d effects to none) and that had no impact.

It is not a lack of horsepower here, as I'm running a dual core AMD64 4400+ with 4GB of RAM.

Is there some way for me to troubleshoot or attach logs that will help identify what's going on with this lag? Is wacom-tools the right place? The tools aren't the problem ...

A good start would be to attach Xorg.0.log, but I'm not sure I'll be able to identify any culprits. It could be the bluetooth packet loss causing latency. Also try attaching the output of dmesg.

I've found that moving the tablet within 6 inches of the bluetooth adapter resolves this problem. It is not ideal (the range is supposed to be 15 meters?) but it works. If you're willing to troubleshoot I am too, though I'm not really excited about re-introducing the problem.

That would either mean that the batteries are failing / underpowered (rechargables are 1.2 volts while regular alkalines are 1.5 etc), or there's a bug in your bluetooth adaptor / driver. I'll go ahead and mark it incomplete, and if anyone else is willing to duplicate the bug we'll work from there.

If the reduced range makes it hard to find a good place for the tablet you might try a USB cable. I don't have a graphire so I can't duplicate any of this. Sorry I can't be of any more help, but thanks for the quick reply.
