Bug Description

I've installed the focal-desktop-amd64.iso image with SHA-256 sum b928163990d9e148605c230c5d3e7bc563bb67269d551f741abc804553f3477c from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/focal/daily-live/20210202.1/ on the HP ZBook 15 G7 laptop (CID 202009-28216).

There are multiple issues:

* The graphical desktop isn't launched. The screen remains black except for a cursor blinking erratically in the top left corner of the screen. If I hammer Control+Alt+F[12345] for a while, the graphical desktop starts eventually.
* The screen resolution is 3840x2160 but there is no scaling, so everything is tiny.
* The touchpad does not work.
* WLAN does not work.
* Ethernet does not work. I tried two dongles (a USB A as well as a USB C dongle).
* No sound.

$ cat /proc/version_signature

There is because the corresponding drivers is not be installed.

E.g. iwlwifi for AX201 wireless module.

In this case, the iwlwifi is in linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-41-generic.

So, the real issue is why the linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-41-generic is not be installed during the installation.

Could we get some more logs of such an installation? Would be nice to get the at least the ubiquity installer logs, maybe the list of packages on the system too.
Not sure what went wrong here - is this a device that should get the OEM stuff pulled in during installation? Since if that's the case, maybe something didn't quite work which would explain why so many drivers are missing.

The machine in question is expected to install oem-stella.cmit-meowth-meta; remove the 5.8 hwe kernel; install linux-oem-20.04 v5.6 kernel.

The question is if this system working correctly with v5.6 oem kernel; or if it should be using the default v5.8 kernel.

If you wish to switch it to v5.8 kernel for the installed system, then we will need to upload new oem-meta and respin the iso asap.

So the dependencies of oem-stella.cmit-meowth-meta in OEM archive is broken.

Have we checked the installation without Internet? Will it still fail?

Ok, just did a quick sanity test of the new ubiquity (20.04.15.7) and ubuntu-drivers-common (1:0.8.6.5~0.20.04.1). I have booted up the last .2 RC, downloaded xnox's ubuntu-drivers mock wrapper, installed its dependencies (via universe), upgraded ubiquity and ubuntu-drivers-common and then started the installation. The installation finished with success. I then checked the syslog to see if the right kernel and nvidia drivers combination has been used - all good: oem kernel, no hwe kernel installed, oem nvidia drivers. I also checked if any -edge kernel packages have been selected by mistake - there were none.

I think this is enough of a validation that the packages are sane at least. Let's get it migrated to -updates and then test some more on the RC images.
