Bug Description

Binary package hint: hdapsd

# modprobe hdaps

[14618.132000] hdaps: IBM ThinkPad X41 detected.
[14618.132000] hdaps: initial latch check good (0x01).
[14619.156000] hdaps: device successfully initialized.
[14619.156000] input: hdaps as /class/input/input20
[14619.156000] hdaps: driver successfully loaded.

OK.

# hdaps-gl

OK.

# /etc/init.d/hdapsd start

 * Not starting hdapsd: /sys/block/sda/queue/protect does not exist

WRONG.

Same problem here:

root@ignoto-laptop:~# dmesg | grep hdaps
[ 6015.689491] hdaps: driver unloaded.
[ 6018.427779] hdaps: inverting axis readings.
[ 6018.427788] hdaps: LENOVO ThinkPad T61 detected.
[ 6018.428478] input: hdaps as /devices/platform/hdaps/input/input19
[ 6018.478335] hdaps: driver successfully loaded.
root@ignoto-laptop:~#

but:

root@ignoto-laptop:~# /etc/init.d/hdapsd start
 * Not starting hdapsd: /sys/block/sda/queue/protect does not exist
root@ignoto-laptop:~#

and also:

root@ignoto-laptop:~# cat /var/log/messages | grep sda | grep Protect
Feb 16 01:34:11 ignoto-laptop kernel: [ 5.372000] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off
root@ignoto-laptop:~#

I don't know how to fix it, I looked up on /proc and on kernel configuration but I found nothing

Did you read /usr/share/doc/hdapsd/README.Debian? If so, you would know, you need to patch the kernel.
