Bug Description

Binary package hint: brightside

Brightside as shipped with Ubuntu does not interact with xscreensaver, while it would be very easy to provide this functionality.

I mean that brightside could call gnome-screensaver-command first and, if that fails, call xscreeensaver-command next.
Or maybe xscreensaver and gnome-screensaver could use the alternatives mechanism to present a common interface.

Anyway, I think this should be fixed. As a very simple workaround, I wrote a script that I put in /usr/local/bin, which interfaces brightside with xscreensaver by converting invocation to gnome-screensaver-command to invocation to xscreensaver-command.

By the way, this bug is a consequence of the fix to <https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-bugs/2006-April/187152.html>, a fix wich in my opinion was too quick.

The latest version of brightside in debian & ubuntu uses xdg-screensaver, which sorts this out automatically.
