Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When clicking a link from gnome terminal (or other places), firefox-3.0 gives the following message:

Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

It is open and is otherwise responding. The expected behavior is for firefox to open a new tab. I have tried setting firefox-3.0 up as a 'Custom application', 'Sensible-browser' and 'Firefox'.

Sometimes this hapens to me when I want to submit a bug report with the crash manager (or how it called) and Firefox 3 is running already.

please try to use preferred application dialog and pick the standard answer there. it should available as a standard option since last upload.

I changed it back to 'Firefox' in the Preferred Applications dialog, with 'Open link in new tab' selected, and now it is working.

Please note that this was a fresh hardy installation where I copied over my entire home directory from a gutsy computer, then logged in with this user. When I first noticed the incorrect behavior, 'Firefox' was selected as the preferred application, so I don't know why that didn't work in the first place. Apparently, changing it away from Firefox, then back to Firefox fixes the issue. This may still affect users upgrading from gutsy or earlier.

thanks for the info.

can't tell why it didn't work before. most likely there was really a bug in our start script.
