Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Regarding bug #191868, I experienced similar problems

The start-up of Mozilla Firefox 3.0b3 on Kubuntu Hardy Alpha 4 (8.04) takes long time (>10min) or produces a termination of the process without error messages
Debuging with gdb only produces output by attaching it to an existing process.

Output of
firefox &
gdb -p 12374

for the crash case, please look if you have a firefox-3.0 .crash file in the /var/crash folder and submit a new bug by double clicking on it.

I have run the strace command (see attached stace1.log). Long latencies where on the lines

[pid 6989] open("/home/frese/.gconfd/saved_state.tmp", O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0700) = 14
[pid 6987] open("/etc/hosts", O_RDONLY|0x80000 /* O_??? */) = 46

The re-rendering of the window takes also around 2min. I had to terminate the process, because I was not able to quit firefox
by the menu.

Maybe it's helpful that I experienced problems with my hostname after upgrade of kNetworkmanager

I donnot have a firfox-3.0 crash file in my /var/crash directory, but a _usr_lib_firefox_firefox-bin.1000.crash. I don't remeber if the crash date was before or after i did the upgrade.

I think I am having this same problem. I am using the latest hardy. the 'safe mode' does not help. I am using kubuntu also. I takes about 10 min to open firefox, and then it is very unstable. if i click on any thing in it takes another 10 minutes to complete that action. I have atached my output "strace -f -eopen firefox-3.0 &> /tmp/strace.1.log"

I thin it should have high importance state, because non-working browser is very critical problem for upcoming 8.04.

With KDE4 you cant have compiz as i recall it uses its own desktop(effects) package Plasma i think but its been a while since i had sat at my Ubuntu pc. What i meant was compiz and or KDE4s DE engine can slow everything down as it uses alot of mem to run them. Is this reproducible with any other browser including but not limited to Konq, Galeon, Epiphany, ect...?

Hmm.. I though and read somewhere, that it's possible to combine KDE4 (effects off) with compiz.. But it doesn't matter actually.
Because Firefox hasn't worked for me in KDE4 also.

Now I'm using KDE4 with effects and Konq is OK. Firefox is broken too.
I have also tried previously firefox from mozilla team and the problem was still there.

Everything was Ok with KDE3 and beryl, compiz-fusion in gutsy.

But now, since upgrade to hardy I can't use FF3 anymore..

I will try to completely remove FF today, maybe it'll help.

Safe-mode option does not show any effect (4min load time until the safe-mode dialog appears). No gnome support packages had been installed.
Purgin firefox and xulrunner and reinstalling it does not help neither.
