Bug Description

Binary package hint: bibletime

The current version of Bibletime in the Hardy repos seems to be broken; whenever I try to open it, its splash pops up and quickly crashes with the message:
"The applications BibeTime (bibletime) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)."

I can't offer much else, here are the debugging symbols that came with the error:

If there's any way possible, can the repos' version of BibleTime be updated to 1.6.5? The current version - 1.6.4 - has several known bugs (such as not being able to split views), which are supposed to have been fixed in 1.6.5 (a bugfix release).

I'm currently running the 64-bit version of Kubuntu Hardy alpha5 + KDE 4.0.1, on a Gateway NX860XL laptop, using the repos' Nvidia 169.09 driver with an Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GS GPU, and an Intel Core2 Duo T7200 processor.

I too am somewhat frustrated by the [well] known bugs and can confirm that the open bugs affecting bibletime 1.6.4 are still there in Hardy Heron final.
Please include 1.6.5 in the Hardy repos.

As a side note:
I did try to install Bibletime 1.6.5 from ftp://ftp.mepis.com/mepis/dists/mepis-7.0/main/binary-i386/
but there were dependency problems:

nigel@laptop:~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i bibletime_1.6.5_i386.deb
(Reading database ... 181784 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace bibletime 1.6.4.dfsg-0ubuntu3 (using bibletime_1.6.5_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement bibletime ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of bibletime:
 bibletime depends on libclucene0 (>= 0.9.16a-1); however:
  Package libclucene0 is not installed.
dpkg: error processing bibletime (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 bibletime

So, I tried the obvious (install libclucene0) but also got dependency problems:

nigel@laptop:~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i libclucene0_0.9.16a-1_i386.deb
[sudo] password for nigel:
Selecting previously deselected package libclucene0.
dpkg: regarding libclucene0_0.9.16a-1_i386.deb containing libclucene0:
 libclucene0ldbl conflicts with libclucene0 (<< 0.9.16a-3)
libclucene0 (version 0.9.16a-1) is to be installed.
dpkg: error processing libclucene0_0.9.16a-1_i386.deb (--install):
conflicting packages - not installing libclucene0
Errors were encountered while processing:
 libclucene0_0.9.16a-1_i386.deb

Blessings,

Nigel

It took me a while, but I finally found the source code for BibleTime 1.6.5; you can find it below:

http://teharris.net/mepis/pool/main/b/bibletime/

It builds and runs very well as long as you have the dependencies from the repo's version installed.

That is the precise problem that I am having - dependency on libclucene0 but I can't
install it on Hardy because of libclucene0ldbl:

nigel@laptop:~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i libclucene0_0.9.16a-1_i386.deb
[sudo] password for nigel:
Selecting previously deselected package libclucene0.
dpkg: regarding libclucene0_0.9.16a-1_i386.deb containing libclucene0:
  libclucene0ldbl conflicts with libclucene0 (<< 0.9.16a-3)
libclucene0 (version 0.9.16a-1) is to be installed.
dpkg: error processing libclucene0_0.9.16a-1_i386.deb (--install):
conflicting packages - not installing libclucene0
Errors were encountered while processing:
  libclucene0_0.9.16a-1_i386.deb

So I am waiting for Bibletime 1.6.5 to built for Hardy (which, according to a recent email
I received, shouldn't be long).

Blessings,

Nigel

Thanks for reporting this issue and helping to make Kubuntu better.

I could not reproduce this issue with the latest version on hardy. Please make sure to test this with the latest version from https://launchpad.net/~txwikinger/+archive and see if it is reporducible.

Thanks again.

Thanks Jake,

I followed the link and installed the two debs. It now works without crashing as with the
reported bugs in 1.6.4.

When will 1.6.5 make it into the repos?

Blessings,

Nigel
