Bug Description

[Impact]

 * Unable to build armhf Ubuntu 21.10 cloud images due to 'No space left on device' errors. See attached build log snippet for details on the disk space errors.

 * The fix has landed upstream in the livecd-rootsfs master branch https://git.launchpad.net/livecd-rootfs/commit/?id=1a7e9ca8c9c7db434e02efad38ca270eca779339

[Test Plan]

 * Test plan is to build armhf image with a patched livecd-rootfs

   1. Build without this patch and observe failing build due to disk space error
   2. Apply patch and build and observe a successful build.

I have verified successfuly build in private build https://launchpad.net/~cloudware/+livefs/ubuntu/impish/cpc/+build/314665

This build is private as built using the Canonical CPC tooling.
Successful build log snippet for the failing section attached @ successful-tmpdrgs_w0o-snippet.buildlog.

[Where problems could occur]

 * The only downside I can think of is a bigger disk image. Since landing upstream in the master branch we have seen no issues with the disk size in the 22.04 image builds.

[Other Info]

 * I will create MP against livecd-rootfs:ubuntu/impish branch.

Hello Philip, or anyone else affected,

Accepted livecd-rootfs into impish-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/2.742.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-impish to verification-done-impish. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-impish. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Ok, accepting this into -proposed, but I'm just actually wondering: do we know why the armhf images require more space nowadays?

I asked the same question whilst sponsoring the upload to Jammy. See: https://code.launchpad.net/~toabctl/livecd-rootfs/+git/livecd-rootfs-1/+merge/412258/comments/1089194

As verification I have successfully built and published Ubuntu 21.10 Impish armhf cloud images with this patch applied as in -proposed.

Note that armhf downloads are present and have passed all available testing.

This bug was fixed in the package livecd-rootfs - 2.742.2

---------------
livecd-rootfs (2.742.2) impish; urgency=medium

  * Bump UEFI disk image size for armhf to 3.5 GB (LP: #1953609)
Current builds are failing because the disk size is not big enough.
This a backport from jammy and upstream livecd-rootfs:ubuntu/master.
