Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Ubuntu 7.10
network-manager 0.6.5-0ubuntu16.7.10.0

NetworkManager already lets you use connections defined with the "ppp" method in /etc/network/interfaces.
It would be nice if "wvdial" connections could also be controlled by NetworkManager.

this bug is not a duplicate of # 191889 which is specific to firefox.
A solution to this "wish" will resolve millions of issues related to 3G modems not working in network manager but working in wvdial.

Indeed, it's not a duplicate of the offline-mode firefox bug, but it's also not an issue we can really fix in NetworkManager. If you setup a connection with another application, then it won't be managed by NM. Modems not supported should have bugs filed for them individually to add support (especially since the issue can be at various levels in the stack, not necessarily in NetworkManager).

Closing as Won't Fix. Please open separate bugs for specific modems that are not supported directly by NetworkManager.
