Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-new

My system just identified the 169.12+2.6.24.500-500.23~envy version of nvidia-glx-new today. I updated to that, restarted, and now X wont start. Actually it attempts a start a few times, and when it finally starts there is just a gabled mess on the screen. I'm using an NVidia 7800GT with a Dell 3007WFP display (at 2560x1600).

Prior to this I had been running the "169.12+2.6.24.12-16.34" version for several days with no problems.

Release is Hardy Beta x86, completely up to date packages.

I'm am attaching an Xorg.0.log.old, which looks to be when it failed to start, and an Xorg.0.log, which should be from when it started but was useless. Also attached is my dpkg.log, which ought to show exactly what's on the system.

Let me know if there's anything else to try.

Changing the package to "envyng-core".

I just rebooted, went to a text console, ran "envyng -t", and told it to install the nvidia drivers. That ran, installed several more packages(huh?). After rebooting everything is working fine.

I no longer thing this is critical, since there's a solution to it. But it still seems like something is wrong in envyng. I had installed envyng last night. Today I ran it, but just cancelled out (I never killed it). I'm guessing that envy left something in some sort of half-baked state, so that the update manager wanted a different version of the driver when the system wasn't ready for it.

EnvyNG added the repositories but you cancelled the operation when EnvyNG was either removing or installing some packages.

Next time, if you want to be sure that EnvyNG doesn't touch your system you can type:
sudo envyng --uninstall-all

and remove envyng-core.

I'm closing the bugreport.
