8.04RC install fails on Dell Latitude D600

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

8.04RC install on Dell Latitude D600 leaves a non-working /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Fresh install of 7.10 generates a good /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

I was goaded into a 8.04RC install because of a non-functional cursor on an up to date 7.10. Re-installing 7.10 resolved the cursor/touchpad/mouse problem, leading me to believe that some update was the source of the problem.

I see this bug report is being associated with a trouble-free version of xorg. The bugs exist in the fully updated 7.10 xorg and the version for 8.04RC.

The install left /etc/X11/xorg.conf not working, apparently driving
display beyond it's capabilities.

Attached is the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from that install.

Sorry, I copied over a working version from Gutsy and did not save a
backup.
