Bug Description

I am using breezy and I just ran apt-get upgrade last night and now evolution
keeps asking me for a password and after three trys it fails. This worked before
the upgrade. I spoke to the evolution group and they said it was a package problem
I can do testing
Thanks

I think that bugs #17098, #169067, and #17987 are all basically the same. At the last upgrade to the exchange packages, evolution broke when connecting to
an exchange server. Also, I noticed the evolution-exchange package has not been upgraded to 2.4.1 along with the other evolution packages. If we have bugs
that show up with exchange when evolution was upgraded from 2.4.0 to 2.4.1, it stands to reason that perhaps there is a 2.4.1 version of evolution-exchange
that might need upgrading ?

I found the source for evolution-exchange-2.4.1 over on ftp.acc.umu.se/pub/gnome/sources. I then activated the unbuntu deb-src entry in /etc/apt/sources.
list and built v2.4.0 of evolution-exchange usint apt-get -b source evolution-exchange. This required several package installations to full-fill all
dependency requirements. then I compiled v2.4.1 from source using the non-debian way (./configure; make; etc.). However, I am stuck here because I do not
know how to enter the Unbuntu patches and create the .deb. If you can point me to a howto or show otherwise, I could try it from this end to verify the
problem you have found.

As a temporary work around until the evolution-exchange problems at v2.4.1 get corrected, I have reverted all the dependent packages back to v2.4.0 and held
them using dselect. As such, I get the following console message if I try to upgrade my system:
apt-get -d -u dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
  evolution evolution-data-server evolution-data-server-dev evolution-dev evolution-webcal gnome-panel gnome-panel-data libcamel1.2-6
  libcamel1.2-dev libebook1.2-5 libebook1.2-dev libecal1.2-3 libecal1.2-dev libedata-book1.2-2 libedata-book1.2-dev libedata-cal1.2-1

  libegroupwise1.2-dev libexchange-storage1.2-0 libexchange-storage1.2-dev
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 25 not upgraded.

Note that the evolution-exchange package remains un-held so that when it is ready to upgrade, I will receive a notice. In the meantime, I can use evolution
as an exchange mail reader.

The recent upgrade of evolution-exchange to v2.4.1 (consistent with evolution 2.4.1 now) seems to correct the e-mail portion of the exchange server link.
However, both the calendar and contacts seem to remain broken.

I also was in the same situation as the reporter. I've found a workaround in
the forums
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=76039&highlight=evolution+exchange).
Basically, it is: change the Global Catalog server name to an invalid value,
restart evolution, get an error when accessing the contacts and calendar, change
it back to its valid value, and restart evolution again. So far, the workaround
seems to have fixed things for me.

Even if this workaround does work for everyone, it doesn't change the fact there
is still a bug here, of course.
