Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade Xubuntu 6.06 to 6.10 using the alternate CD. My installation of 6.06 is unmodified from the install, and I don't have network access (hence why I'm trying to upgrade - I would have installed a later version but none of the live CDs would display anything - 6.06 was the only version that I got to work with my display). The reason I want to upgrade is to try and get my network access working (it recognises my wireless network card but won't connect).

So using the 6.10 alternate CD (that has a valid MD5 checksum and that I burnt at 2x), I do

gksu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade"

then say no to the "do you want to download packages from the network" (because I can't)

and then it says this:

Could not calculate the upgrade
A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package
and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport.

So I'm reporting the bug (hopefully this is the right place!) as it asks. I'll attach the files it says (apt.log & main.log - term.log was present too but empty).

I'm not a total newbie but my experience of Linux so far hasn't been too command-liney (happy to follow instructions though!).

Any help in trying to get Xubuntu working on my PC would be greatly appreciated!

Best wishes,
Dave

Possibly a connectivity issue or a transient network problem.

Looking at this again main.log indicates the following:

2008-05-23 07:39:29,657 DEBUG useNetwork: 'True' (selected by user)

Are you certain that you choose No? Additionally did you have the alternate Xubuntu CD? You might also try upgrading to Hardy and skipping the other releases.
