Feature Request - configuration setting for sidebar

Bug Description

Can you add a configuration setting (that could be set from the menu or
preferably from the Configuration Editor) that would let me specify whether to
display index or thumbnails by default in the sidebar? I prefer to have the
index show up, but it currently defaults to the thumbnails.
