Bug Description

Binary package hint: emesene

Emesene 1.0.1 has been released. It's a bugfix only release but it's encouraged to upgrade to the new version due to a change in the servers:

"This is a bugfix-only release, including the update of the "application id", hex number that some of the msn servers rejected. All users should update as soon as possible, since this change is going to be applied to all servers, resulting in either error messages when trying to manipulate contacts, or empty contact list after logging in."

I'm going to try if I can package it myself, I have never tried this before with a "real" (non-example) package.

Wauw, it went without any problems.

For the ones that are interested, I have uploaded the package to my personal PPA for testing purposes:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nielsegberts/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/nielsegberts/ubuntu intrepid main

I will attach a debdiff with this message.

If I'm not wrong the changes included in emesene 1.0.1 are already included using patches in Ubuntu, so maybe this upgrade is not needed.

The current version in Hardy is emesene (1.0-dist-1) and does *not* include the fix. The result is that in the near future the emesene package will be completely unusable.

The current version in Intrepid is emesene (1.0-dist-4) and *does* include the fix, resulting in a working package. The package can be compiled on Hardy without any problems, I suggest that the package is updated either through ubuntu-updates or through backports.

There has been fixes in the 1.0.1 package that is not in the 1.0-dist-4 package from emesene.

For Intrepid, updating to 1.0.1 seems sensible. I'm trying to understand what "The result is that in the near future the emesene package will be completely unusable." is about. We ought to do an SRU for Hardy for that, whatever it is.

Regarding the Application ID bug, it's already in hardy-proposed, so please help testing it so that it can be copied to hardy-updates, see bug 249530.

Right, although some fixes are backported, but it contains many new and updated
translations.

That is bug 249530, already in hardy-proposed.

I think the best is to upgrade Intrepid with emesene 1.0.1, and keep hardy at 1.0 and patch the most critical bugs.

Is this version going to be in Intrepid or do we wait for a new release or something?

Uploaded, thanks for your work and sorry for the delay!

I've just done a couple of minor changes, I've undone the Maintainer change in debian/control and I've put "LP: #252380" in debian/changelog so this bug is closed automatically.

Cheers!

  * Removed from_upstream_embed_logo_in_htm-patch, it's fixed in the new version.
  * Removed from_upstream_fix_gtk_image_loading-patch, same reason
  * Removed from_upstream_fix_invalid_application_header-patch, same reason
