Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

CD playing in Totem sure is crippled..
First, the autoplay bug, then the need for a codec not remotely saying anything about audio cd's (musepack etc just because one happens to depend on libcdaudio). The "Play audio cd" option is always greyed out.
So the user needs to find out the way to playing a cd is via an url of cdda:// - not exactly user-friendly.

Now the bug. Totem only plays the first track of the cd. No crash, no errors, just one track.
The same CD plays fully on Mplayer and all stand-alone players I have.

Xubuntu 8.04.1

thanks for the report, do you get the same with sound-juicer or rhythmbox?

Since only Totem is installed by default, I thought one other player would be enough. Out of curiosity, what's so different with Mplayer and these two?

Both Sound juicer and Rhythmbox play the cd fully.

I also tested 2 other cds with all four apps (Mplayer, Totem, those two), and got the same behavior - every one except Totem plays them correctly. Totem only plays the first track of each.

This needs to be confirmed by someone else i don't get such behavior in my installation, thanks.

Upstream closed the report. Upstream comment:
"CDDA support was removed from totem in August 2007. You can still play audio
CDs if you open the right URI manually (for the GStreamer backend, that'd be
cdda://<track-number>, so you can still play other tracks by adding cdda://2
etc), but you should really use a different application for audio CD playback,
like sound-juicer or rhythmbox or banshee or whatever."

This makes me wonder, why is the default audio CD player still Totem?
A distro released in May 2008 *should* have had time to make a change for something that happened 2007..

closing the bug since upstream says that's not one, rhythmbox is the default CD player on ubuntu since several cycles

But I'm on Xubuntu here, Rhythmbox was not installed by default in my install?
Also, the autoplay for audio cd's starts totem, does this not mean it's the default in Xubuntu?
