Bug Description

Hi,
I just upgraded from the latest Hardy version due to not being able to get suspend to resume properly.
But now i can't even get into suspend. When i try pm-suspend the keyboard, mouse and monitor all shut down, but the system fans stay up and i get a blinking cursor in the top right which won't go away.

When i step through the kernel debugging info from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend i get the attached log.

I've gone backwards. Hopefully this is already known and there is a fix coming soon.

I have exactly the same problem. Hardware: Asus M2NPV-MX, integrated geforce 6 with proprietary nvidia drivers.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information, and your dmesg log didn't contain any evidence of a suspend attempt.

Please include the information as separate attachments:
 * Output of uname -a
    * uname -a > uname.txt
 * Output of sudo lspci -vvnn
    * sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci.txt
 * Output of sudo dmidecode
    * sudo dmidecode > dmidecode.txt
 * Try to suspend/hibernate and then restart the system and attach /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/kern.log.0
 * Tarball of /proc/acpi directory. You can't just tar all files because their content sometimes changes etc.
    * cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp
    * tar -cvjf ~/acpi.tar.bz /tmp/acpi
    * attach acpi.tar.bz from your home directory
 * Follow the steps detailed at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend (as you have already done), but attach your /var/log/kern.log after this as opposed to your dmesg output.

Sorry for not getting all info.
I'll start with my system details before attempting a suspend.

I couldn't get my kern.log files to attach as the upload said they were empty, but always had stuff in them when i opened them with gedit. So I've tar'd them. hopefully this works.

If you need any more info please let me know.

thanks

In my case, maybe these lines from kern.log are the most important ones?

Is someone even going to look at this or not?

It has been almost 4 months that it was reported. And still the suspend is broken for my computer!

berto - can you try with the latest Intrepid kernel (2.6.27-11) from intrepid-proposed please? That contains a lot of fixes, some of which affect power management. If you still have problems, then could you also try with the latest Jaunty alpha. This is something that you shouldbe able to test just using the live CD.

Thanks

In my case:
2.6.27-11 doesn't work either, nothing changed in the result: blinking cursor, fan stays on, hard drive shutdowns. I'm not going to even try Jaunty Alpha due to lack of time putting all my software on it.

So all these errors/duplicates are not going to be investigated at all in intrepid? Maybe I'll then have to change distro.
