In case it's not completely obvious, this happens when beagle or tracker tries to index the spreadsheet. Confirmed on Intrepid Alpha, gnumeric version 1.8.3-3ubuntu2

This is happening for me too, but as far as I can tell all my gnumeric documents were originally created by gnumeric.

I experience the bug too. However, nor Tracker nor Beagle is running but GnomeDo does. The indexer plugin for files and folders is enabled.

I just had what I think is the same crash on a .csv file. Can attach if it's useful. ssindex was invoked from beagle.

My experience is similar to what Antoine Pairet reported. No gnumeric or beagle or tracker running. Only GnomeDo running with file indexing enabled.

This is probably a bug in the pango library (see Gnumeric upstream bug).
At the moment it is not clear what the bug in pango is, but the upstream bug has a workaround for it:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=121431

Is there a MOTU who can apply this patch for intrepid?

This is a confirmed bug in pango, see
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=558254

It is fixed in upstream pango trunk.

This bug is fixed by a new upload of pango1.0 to intrepid-updates.
