Bug Description

Hello,

First please excuse my english....

This is the first time i install Ubuntu (8.04TLS).I have download last Ubuntu updates proposed.

I have a Nvidia Foxconn 7950 gt 256ddr3 graphic card and no problems with Windows XP.Ubuntu asked me for install owner drivers and download them. I reboot my machine and at the Ubuntu screen he said me that there was a probleme with the resolution of the screen.

Finally i can't use Ubuntu whith my graphic card , i get help on this forum http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-8660178-pb-boot-ubuntu-apres-install-driver-7950gt but no good results. I don't no if i can solve the problem with some commands or if it a driver or Ubuntu compatibility problem ...

Please can you say me what sort of problem it is.I imagine you've got a lot of work,so if i can just know that , i will be able to research the solution.

Thank you. ;)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in advance.

according to your xorg.conf file, your system is not using any nvidia driver. try the following:
* alt+f2 to run open the run command dialog
* type "gksu jockey-gtk" without the quotes "
* type your password, if asked for it
* see if nvidia is listed in the list of drivers offered by the program
* if nvidia is there and marked red, then it is disabled, click on it, and click "activate"
* if more than one nvidia is present, activate the one with the highest version number
* when you're done, click close and reboot the computer.

      starting anac(h)ronistic cron anacron[ok]
      starting defferred execution scheduler atd[ok]
      starting periodic command sheduler crond[ok]
      checking battery state [ok]
      running local boot scripts [ok]

*after an advertisin screen appears (my traduction :)

"UBUNTU IS RUNNING IN LOW GRAPHIC MODE"

"your screen and your graphic card can't be correctly detect. To use highest resolution, visual effects or several screens, you have to configure the view yourself"

[a case] "always execute in low resolution"

* I tested to configure with my screen (it in the list) and the two drivers who were propose for my graphic card.

* but everytimes i reboot, it's the same problem , like ubuntu could not record my preferences/choices :( :( :(
