Bug Description

The turn off/restart/logout window that appears upon clicking Quit button (widget) makes the whole background go black, while it is supposed to fade to dark.

This scenario is observed without compositing:

Tested on Kubuntu Intrepid 8.10 beta on a VM.

Meh. Please try to hit the correct package, stuffing everything into kdebase leads to unnecessary works :S

Please check that the "Log Out" effect is turned on. If it is I assume it is a limitation of the VM. Works just fine here.

He's complaining that without effects, the whole desktop turns black instead of fading like it does when effects are turned on. I don't think that upstream is going to implement such an effect without compositing turned on, however.

Not everyone would use compositing. Could there be any other alternative than making the whole screen black? Since doing so makes it look ugly. It would be much better even if the screen remains unchanged while the logout/restart dialog is drawn over it.

I don't believe upstream will implement this, since they are against implementing "fake" transparency effects and the like when real effects are available.
